Description
I know my uploads have been rather slow as of late, but I hope to make it up to you by uploading a new entry for my Photography folder.
This was something I captured just yesterday, and to be honest, it was spur-of-the-moment. I like flicking disposable lighters, either to light a candle or just to watch the flame, and in this darkened room (all the lighting was dim and behind me), the flame of a single lighter really stands out. Despite being spur-of-the-moment, this was the third attempt at taking this photo, because I used a shorter flame at first (this time it was maxed out) and the second photo was too blurry because I couldn't hold the phone still enough. I will say, however, that I'm really getting to know the settings on my phone's camera, and I knew that the "indoor" setting would yield a photo that wouldn't wash out the flame entirely.
The title of this picture is the latter half of John 1:5 (NLT): "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it." (This was a last-minute change, for up until right before I uploaded this, I wanted to title this "A Light for My Path," which itself was the latter half of Psalm 119:105.) I opted for the change because I felt the light of this single lighter in a darkened room fit the verse from John better than Psalm 119. For a bit of context, I encourage you to read the verses of John leading up to this one.

Disposable lighters are pretty hit or miss when it comes to how high you can get the flame. Usually I have to remove the little metal shield in order to get a flame that impressive.
This is a lovely image, by the way. I love how the flame stands out in the darkness. And it does reinforce the fact that while light can extinguish dark, the opposite cannot be done. I like being able to look at the varying color of the flame as well. nice work. :3
