Description
Like many other photos in my gallery, this one was spontaneous. I was drinking from a clear plastic tumbler while looking toward my Christmas tree, and noticed that when viewed from that perspective, the image of the tree had odd distortion. I then re-created the effect by holding the opening of the empty cup against the camera's lens. The only post-processing was retaining the color at the center of the image and removing the rest.
I title this "The True Meaning of Christmas" because, like the way the tree's image looks distorted, it can be hard to clearly see the true meaning of Christmas when considering all the peripheral practices that have sprung up around the holiday.

When I saw the title and the image, I instantly thought that it would have to do with how a lot of people lose sight of the real meaning of Christmas. How it has become distorted over the years by numerous things in the minds and hearts of people. I like how looking down the cup gives you a bit of tunnel vision forcing you to look and understand how distorted the Christmas tree has become.
It's very neat how doing every day things can sometimes inspire bits of art like this here.
